When Indiana Jones 5 starts filming as scheduled in May, original star John Rhys-Davies will be on board to return as Sallah receives the call. After years of gesturing in development hell, Indiana jones 5 finally seems to be on the right track with James Mangold in the director’s chair. Last month, Disney confirmed that it was planning to shoot the sequel this spring and release the film in 2022.
In 1981 John Rhys-Davies appeared as Sallah in the original Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, where he becomes a close friend of Indy. He repeated the role in 1989 for the third part of the series, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. While Rhys-Davies isn’t as confident as Disney that production will begin in May, he recently told ComingSoon.net that he can return if necessary.
“I understand that the film is supposed to be made in May. I have the slightest skepticism that the world can make such a film in May. I suppose it is possible that I will be asked to be there.” If I am nominated, I will serve! (Laughs) But I think we should wait a little longer and, you know, actually have our Masters make announcements, and then you can either share my joy or my disappointment. Is that appropriately diplomatic? ”
Rhys-Davies didn’t appear in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008, but that’s not because he wasn’t asked. In a 2011 interview with HeyUGuys, the actor revealed he was approached for a cameo, but felt that the idea they had in mind didn’t do the character justice.
“I wanted to sit down and then it would fit into the wedding or something like Indy getting an award or something. I thought the character of Sallah was worth more to the audience than that,” explained Rhys-Davies.
In addition to his role as Sallah in the Indiana Jones series, Rhys-Davies is also known for his roles in the films “Lord of the Rings”, “The Untouchables”, “The Living Daylights” and shows such as “Sliders” and “The Shannara Chronicles” known. As a prolific voice actor, he has also had speaking roles in Aquaman, Mosley and Guillermo del Toro’s DreamWorks series Wizards: Tales of Arcadia. Hopefully, if Indiana Jones 5 really is Harrison Ford’s final appearance as the title character, Rhys-Davies can return to give Sallah a decent goodbye.
Indiana Jones 5 was originally supposed to be directed by Steven Spielberg, who directed all four of the previous installments in the series. At one point, the film received a July 19, 2019 release date. Several script changes brought the project to a standstill, and Spielberg later stepped down as a director, although he will remain on board as a producer. Now the film is on track to be released on July 29, 2022, provided there are no longer any major delays. This message comes to us from ComingSoon.net.
