Why the Batman used this Nirvana music in his first trailer

I just had an idea one day and was like, “Oh, that, you know, when I knew the character Matt brings to the screen, I just thought, this feels like to me … if I were Batman, If I were Matt Reeves as Batman, what would go through my mind if I got up on a building and just looked at the city? ‘And I thought, “Yeah, that would get me going through my head.” And so I wrote this, sent it to Matt, and he really loved it. Then we got the chance to record a couple of them when I was in London. We didn’t do this for any other reason than maybe using it for trailers. I know that Matt primarily just wanted it to be editable with it. I’ve written about 40 minutes of music, none of which is figurative. It was just kind of like, “Well, here’s what I think you know?” And who knows how much will take and how much we’ll look at later and say, “It doesn’t fit as well as we thought.” But that particular, very simple main subject, you know, that’s going to be there.
