Holiday weekend news dump alert: Amazon has canceled Utopia.
A representative of the streamer confirms to TVLine that Gillian Flynn’s apocalyptic conspiracy thriller, which was released in September, will not return for a second season.
Based on the British series of the same name, the thriller followed five fans of a (seemingly) fictional comic called Utopia. After meeting online and defying their obsession, the group discovers hidden meanings hidden on the pages of Utopia and realizes that the threats that comics poses to humanity are not made up, but very real. The high-stakes adventure put her in touch with Jessica Hyde, the famous main character of the comic, who joined them on her mission to save the world.
The cast included John Cusack (in his first regular TV role), Rainn Wilson (The Office), Desmin Borges (You’re the Worst), Dan Byrd (Cougar Town), Ashleigh LaThrop (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), Javon Waltanna (Euphoria), Christopher Denham (Manhattan), Cory Michael Smith (Gotham), Sasha Lane (Hellboy) and the relative newcomer Farrah Mackenzie.
TVLine’s Streaming Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect the decline of Utopia.
