TVLine Article: Rhys Darby Joins Pirate Comedy, GH Mother Returns, and Extra

Rhys Darby says “Ahoy mates!” on HBO Max’s pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death, which has Taika Waititi as an executive producer.

According to our sister’s deadline, the vet Flight of the Conchords will direct the series, which is loosely based on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet (Darby), a spoiled aristocrat who has given up his privileged life as a pirate.

Our flag means death was created by David Jenkins of People of Earth who will act as the showrunner. Oscar winner and Emmy nominee Waititi will direct the pilot alongside Garrett Basch (What We Do in the Shadows) and Dan Halsted and act as an EP. The series marks the most recent collaboration between Darby and Waititi, a Conchords writer / director.
