Paramount + is spoiled for choice for a good fight and has announced a premiere on Thursday June 24th for the fifth season of the legal drama. The streamer formerly known as CBS All Access also drops hints How the departures of OG actors Cush Jumbo (Lucca) and Delroy Lindo (Adrian) are written into the show.
In season 5, Diane von Christine Baranski “wonders if it’s appropriate for her to run an African American law firm” after Audra McDonald’s Liz resigned after Adrian and Lucca resigned, according to the official logline. Meanwhile, “Sarah Steeles Marissa and the company get tangled up in Hal Wackner (Mandy Patinkin on the new series), a Chicago veteran who decides to open his own courtroom in the back of a copy shop.
After the premiere, the season will continue to be resolved weekly on Thursdays with 10 episodes.
As TVLine exclusively reported in April, Jumbo and Lindo will guest star in the season 5 premiere to complete their characters’ storylines. (The COVID-19 crisis stalled production of The Good Fight last March, forced season four to close three episodes early, and prevented series creators Robert and Michelle King from giving either actor a proper goodbye could.)
“We couldn’t be more grateful that Delroy and Cush will be returning in Season 5 to finish their arcs,” the Kings said in a statement in April. “We love the actors and their characters and are happy to give the audience the chance to say goodbye properly.”
To fill the void left by Lindo and Jumbo, The Good Fight – in addition to Patinkin – hired up-and-coming Australian artist Charmaine Bingwa and talk show host / actor Wayne Brady.
