We are still waiting for the long discussed Spawn The film reboots, but now Todd McFarlane hints at a possible cinematic universe of Spawn. Yes, it seems that the character creator and the man behind Image Comics have something bigger in mind. The question is, does Hollywood have an appetite for it?
Todd McFarlane recently announced that a full spawn universe is launching at Image Comics this summer. It will include several new titles such as King Spawn, Gunslinger Spawn, and a team book called The Scorched. That opens up a whole universe, much like Marvel and DC have been doing for decades. But with Disney and DC Marvel locked up at Warner Bros., other studios will have to go elsewhere if they hope to kickstart a comic book film universe. Spawn, McFarlane seemed to suggest in a recent interview, could be an option. Here’s what he had to say about it.
“I’ve had this conversation with people inside and outside the comic industry, I’ve prepared my Hollywood agents for it, also because the big question is whether we’re still doing Spawn The Movie or whether we’re doing something bigger?” Because otherwise the only other way is that you take your five best characters and sell them to five different people and they do five single things and never meet the two of them. Wouldn’t it be better if one person, when a group came and said, ‘hey you know this is an interesting conversation with us, and oh by the way, spawn is at least right in the epicenter right now so we have a lot of value just for this one a character with whom we talk about everyone else. ‘”
Blumhouse Productions has signed an R-Rated reboot of Spawn that will star Jamie Foxx in the title role. Jeremy Renner is also affiliated, and Todd McFarlane plans to run himself. As McFarlane points out, a cinematic universe is off the table when these characters are licensed to different studios. But what if they get a universe to go all in what Image Comics has in the pipeline? The cinematic universe of Spawn could, and we emphasize, be one thing.
But the first is the first. We have to put out at least one spawn movie in the world. Todd McFarlane discussed in the same interview where the project is currently. A lot is happening, but none of it can be officially announced yet.
“During the pandemic, things moved behind the scenes of the spawn movie. It’s just that those steps didn’t go public. We added some great creative people, we added some top talent, and even more Another big piece was made a week ago, so we’re all moving as far as we can to make a big move. We want to be public by the middle of the year. But the one thing that interests anybody isn’t some the name I can’t reveal right now, but it’s’ oh, by the way, they sold it to a studio and yeah, there’s at least someone with a pencil in it somewhere that they’re going to start producing at some point. ”
A previous spawn movie was produced in 1997. It was filmed by critics and not too successful commercially. But a lot has changed in the decades since then, and Todd McFarlane has some ambitious things to brew. We will definitely keep you updated as soon as more details about the film or possibly films become available. This message comes to us via Bleeding Cool.
