Reviews: CBS ‘March Madness Coverage Tops Friday, SmackDown Slips

In the latest TV ratings, CBS’s prime-time coverage of the opening day of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament – including the # 11 seeded Syracuse # 6 best in the state of San Diego – was average 3.4 million viewers in total and a demo rating of 0.8, far from what the comparable night two years ago and a pandemic-related cancellation (4.9 mil / 1.5) brought, but still good enough for Friday to lead in both measures.

Next Friday there are new episodes of MacGyver, Magnum PI and Blue Bloods!

Elsewhere with ABC’s Shark Tank and NBC’s The Blacklist in repeat mode:

FOX | Friday Night SmackDown hit 1.9 million viewers – the second smallest audience on the WWE show since at least July 31 (if not longer) – and a rating of 0.5, which is the lowest demo number of 20210.

THE CW | I ask you: whose line is it anyway? (765K / 0.1) and Fool Us, Penn & Teller Dares You (796K / 0.1) were stable.

The Live + Same Day numbers given in our rating column do not reflect the overall performance of a program as there is increased use of delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms as well as viewing outside the home. Instead, these numbers (Nielsen Fast Nationals, unless labeled finals) aim to merely illustrate trends or superlatives. Go orange
