Noah Centineo resigns as He-Man in Masters of the Universe Movie Reboot

Noah Centineo works for Sony Master of the Universe Restart. In the years of work, the planned live-action film 2019 made a big step forward when Centineo was allegedly cast for the coveted role of He-Man. It was also reported that Aaron and Adam Nee (Band of Robbers) would write and direct the feature, but updates have stagnated since then.

Well, according to a new report from Collider, Noah Centineo has decided to move away from the project. It is said the young actor was close to finalizing his detail for He-Man, but a Centineo representative said Thursday that he has since moved on. It’s not clear if this was due to planning issues or a negotiation issue, but it has been reported that Centineo is no longer the film’s Prince Adam.

“He is no longer tied to this project,” claimed Centineo’s representative and no longer gave a reason.

Who knows what happened behind the scenes between 2019 and now, but Centineo seemed pretty excited back then when he talked about his casting as He-Man. In an interview on The Tonight Show, the actor said he was “very excited” about the role and called it “quite a chance”. Also, about the character’s unique look, Centineo joked that he had “an affinity for being in my underwear,” and also referred to Calvin Klein ads showing the actor in boxer shorts.

The film Masters of the Universe is based on the original Mattel toy line and the subsequent film adaptation from 1987. Directed by Gary Goddard, the classic starred Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as the skeletor. Courteney Cox, Barry Livingston, Meg Foster and James Tolkan also starred. Unfortunately, the box office wasn’t doing too well at the time, and the critics weren’t very kind to Masters of the Universe either. Even so, the film has become a cult classic in the years since its release.

Masters of the Universe just wasn’t in sight for Centineo, but the 24-year-old continues to occupy himself with other blockbuster roles. He is currently working on the upcoming superhero film Black Adam for Warner Bros., which is currently being produced in Atlanta. In the film, Centineo will play Atom Smasher, a superhero who is part of the Justice Society of America alongside Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan). Black Adam will be released on July 29, 2022.

Meanwhile, Centineo will also appear in a GameStop film for Netflix directed by Mark Boal, as well as an untitled CIA spy thriller series by executive producer Doug Liman. As for Masters of the Universe, the film does not yet have a new official release date from Sony. It was supposed to be released on March 5th before delays pushed the project back, and this after years of running around developing hell with various filmmakers. This message comes to us from Collider.
