On March 19th, On-U Sound will release archive footage from New Age Steppers, the reggae punk group formerly directed by Ari Up of the Slits. The label will reissue four of the band’s studio LPs as well as a collection of outtakes and rarities called Avant Gardening. There will also be a box set, Stepping Into a New Age, which will contain all of the band’s work for On-U Sound. Listen to the previously unreleased song “Send for Me” below.
New Age Steppers was formed in 1980 with Ari Up, Adrian Sherwood, and a cast of various staff including members of the Pop Group, Raincoats, Roots Radics, and others. The band existed temporarily until 2012. Ari Up died in 2010.
The New Age Steppers reissue campaign will feature their first three studio albums: The New Age Steppers from the 1980s, Action Battlefield from 1981 and Foundation Steppers from 1983, as well as a first-time vinyl press of Love Forever from 2012, posthumously Ari Up can be seen. The box set contains liner notes by Oli Warwick, interviews with Adrian Sherwood, a 32-page brochure and much more.
