Jason Statham hopes Sung Kang’s return as Han Lue in Fast & Furious 9 means Deckard Shaw won’t be far behind. After Han was killed by a driver in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, it was later revealed in Fast & Furious 6 that Statham’s Deckard Shaw was the driver of the car, taking revenge for the death of his brother Owen (Luke Evans). . Since then, Fast & Furious fans have been calling for “Justice for Han,” which ultimately led to Kang’s return in F9.
After being featured as the main villain in Furious 7, Statham re-co-starred with Dwayne Johnson in the spin-off Hobbs & Shaw. There was talk of a sequel written by Chris Morgan, so there’s a good chance we’ll see Deckard Shaw again with Luke Hobbs in Hobbs & Shaw 2. That doesn’t mean Statham doesn’t want to go back to the original Fast & Furious franchise, as he believes there is still a score to settle between Shaw and Han.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, here is what Jason Statham had to say about Hans return in F6:
“You better bring me back because I have to put out the fire. If he has a bill to settle, it’s with me.”
The Shaw actor adds that the Justice For Han campaign would never have happened without his character’s journey. As Statham explains:
“Honestly, if none of this had happened, Han wouldn’t be coming back. And so when I left [after Fast 6]I got in with Han, I’m going with Han. So if there wasn’t justice for Han and I came back, I probably wouldn’t have brought him back. Again, it feels like everything happened for a reason. And I’m not here to judge anything, but I’m glad we can get it right, and as I said in January, Justice For Han isn’t just that movie. I think how we treat this character if we go forward that will be the ‘justice for Han’. ”
Statham is not expected to appear in F9 in any form, but with two more Fast films in the works, the actor still hopes to get a chance to return as Shaw before the end. In particular, he would like to work with F9 director Justin Lin as he never really had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with the filmmaker. Here’s what Statham said when asked if he would return in F10 or F11.
“I’m a game. I love Justin Lin, he’s a great director. It’s a shame because when I got into the franchise all those years ago he was doing something different and everything I did with Justin was on End of a little label I have to do a movie with him, and I’d love to see the whole Fast Crew, Vin [Diesel] and everyone, they are all great people. I have a lot of affection for them. ”
F9 is slated to hit theaters on June 25th. Meanwhile, Statham can be seen in Guy Ritchie’s next film, Wrath of Man, due out May 7th. According to Randy Couture, The Expendables 4 will start production later this year, so we could see Statham making a return to another big franchise as well.
