Hacks renewed for season 2

HBO Max extends Hacks residence: The comedy led by Jean Smart has been extended for season 2, TVLine has learned.

Smart plays the legendary stand-up comic book Deborah Vance, who reluctantly teams up with a cynical young comedy writer named Ava (Hannah Schwier) to keep her Las Vegas residence. Supporting cast includes Christopher McDonald as Casino CEO Marty and Kaitlin Olson as Deborah’s daughter DJ. Broad City writers Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky created the series.

“We knew right away that Lucia, Paul and Jen brought us a winner,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, in a statement. “We couldn’t be happier about the tremendous response from our viewers and critics and say hello to the executive producers; Jean, Hannah and the rest of the brilliant cast; and our partners at Universal. “

Hacks, which premiered on HBO Max last month, “has been a top performer on the platform since its debut and consistently ranks in the top ten most watched titles of all available content,” explains the streamer. It has also received a lot of critical acclaim: the series and Smart are among TVLine’s Dream Emmy nominees this year. Season 1 ends this Thursday with the last two episodes.

TVLine’s streaming scorecard has been updated to reflect the news. Do you welcome HBO Max’s decision to give Hacks an encore? Share your thoughts in a comment below.
