The handbags may have been tiny in the aftermath of RuPaul’s Drag Race on Friday, but the twists and turns were big. And they were plentiful.
After the groundbreaking season 13 premiere last week, TVLine readers wanted either Kahmora Hall, Elliott With 2 Ts or Utica Queen to be the official season 13 pork chop. And the show was more than happy to grant their wish … with a major catch.
Friday’s episode began with the seven queens who lost their lip-syncing battles – Kahmora, Elliott, Utica, Joey Jay, Rosé, Tanisha Iman, and Denali – and voted to send a girl home to save herself. Joey summed up the situation perfectly: “That’s done!”
While most queens expressed displeasure with this curveball (“We can’t vote! We don’t even know each other!”), Rosé responded a little more sensibly, admitting that the decision would have to be made based on their first impressions of each other. Joey and Utica had the most votes, forcing Ru to initiate a “tie-breaker voting” where each queen only voted for Joey or Utica.
“I’m only afraid of the worst,” Utica admitted, although her fears turned out to be unfounded as Elliott was ultimately the one who sent the packing. “It’s been a nice 15 minutes with all of you,” Elliott told the group on the way out. “I was sent home for something I had nothing to say about. That sucks. I am 100 percent heartbroken. “
But then another twist! Last week’s winners gathered in the workroom for their first meeting with Mama Ru to receive some shocking news. The queens were joined by “someone who I believe didn’t have a fair chance last week,” said Ru. “And it’s someone I think would go well with it.” Enter … Elliott ?!
Tina Burner was understandably confused (“I packed this bitch! Why is she back?”), But as Ru explained, her decision was made in her mind to teach her newest children an important lesson: “No matter what happens here, Lassen Don’t feel like a loser from anyone out there or online. “
After receiving their marching orders for this week’s mini-challenge – a runway show with a “ladylike daytime look” and a “vampy nighttime look that said,“ I’m a whore! ““ – the queens got ready, with tension already flaring between Elliott and Kandy Muse. The drama began when Elliott asked Kandy if she was concerned that a member of a famous drag family – she’s the daughter of Aja and the sister of Dahlia Sin – could be a curse that would send her home early. The question felt a little scriptural (we have to call it what we see!) But Kandy’s angry response was real.
Mini challenge time! Gottmik started in a tight latex dress reminiscent of a sunny day (one of our favorite looks of the night!), And then switched things up with an ensemble worthy of a “creepy temptress”. She completed the look with a tasteful pie and stated that she enjoyed exposing her breasts after undergoing top surgery. Next, Kandy rocked a red and gold flowing look to prove that “a tall girl can be fashionable”. Unfortunately, the judges were far less impressed with her second look, which was basically a devil costume with a hole the tail was supposed to go into.
LaLa Ri opted for a “Southern Belle” motif in a simple dress, an experience that was only memorable because she stuck her heel in the dress and almost fell off. For her second look, LaLa opted for “leather, not leather. A bitch can’t afford it. But I still serve like leather! Next, Olivia Lux switched from a ‘lavender fantasy’ to a glittering, burgundy number for ‘a night at the opera’ during the day.
Symone had the fun in a ’90s-inspired striped pant suit with a surprise cape followed by a look that was part of the mother-goddess-meets-matrix. (“The bitch has arrived!”) Next, Tina lived out her Carrie Bradshaw fantasy before squeezing into a sexy latex look. (“My boots are up to my py!”) And then there was Elliott, who made her day look red and tight before taking us to a “gentleman’s club” on fetish night.
With that double runway behind them, the queens headed for this week’s main challenge: a group performance – complete with self-written solo verses – of RuPaul’s “Condragulations”. The rehearsal process was relatively smooth, but when Gottmik had to practice her part, she explained, “My gender dysphoria has taken over my soul.” She had hoped to discuss her transgender journey with her fellow queens in the right setting, but now she was singing here as part of a large group number above it. Fortunately, she was able to open up to some of her Season 13 sisters later in the episode and received a lot of love and encouragement. (For the record, Gottmik uses the pronouns “she / she” during the dragging and “he / him” outside the dragging.)
On the catwalk this week (“Lamé, you stay!”) Gottmik hugged her inner sea dragon. Kandy gave us an “Austin Powers Fembot Moment” in a furry nightie. LaLa looked like a “Willy Wonka Limited Edition” chocolate, Olivia Channeling a “water lily goddess,” Symone preparing to fight someone in a stylish boxing outfit, Tina serving the Tin Man reality, and Elliott who lives her “rhinestone titty fantasy”.
After revealing Olivia and Symone as the top two queens, Ru dropped another phrase: “There are no bottoms this week. Only front runners … with the exception of the jury, of course. “That meant no one went home, and Olivia and Symone instead dubbed their lips for a tip of $ 5,000. And from the moment Dua Lipa’s “Break My Heart” started playing, the fight was on. Condragulations, Symone!
