David Bowie recorded two covers in 1998 that were officially unreleased. Both are getting an official vinyl and streaming release on Bowie’s 74th birthday next month. His renditions of John Lennon’s “Mother” and Bob Dylan’s “Tryin ‘to Get to Heaven” will be released on January 8th, both digitally and on 7 “vinyl.
The Lennon cover was recorded with Tony Visconti for a Lennon tribute that did not materialize. His version of Dylan’s song was recorded during mixing sessions for the 1999 live album LiveAndWell.com. A live album recorded by Bowie in 1995, No Trendy Réchauffé, was released last month.
