British garage legend Craig David has been named a member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his contributions to music, according to BBC News. He was named in the annual New Year award. “Thank you for all the love you have shown me for so many years,” exclaimed Craig David. “I appreciate and love you. I am very honored.”
Craig David broke out in 1999 singing Artful Dodger’s “Re-Rewind” (The Crowd Say Bo Selecta). The following year he released his debut “Born to Do It” in the UK. The album topped the UK charts, but David didn’t hit number 1 until his 2016 comeback album “Following My Intuition”. Craig David’s most recent album, The Time Is Now (2018), includes collaborations with GoldLink, AJ Tracey and others.
In recent years, MIA and Dizzee Rascal have also been appointed members of the Order of the British Empire.
