Chadwick Boseman was honored over the weekend by fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe colleagues Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle. The two actors paid tribute to Boseman at the MTV Movie and TV Awards, where he received the Hero for the Ages Award. The Black Panther star died in August after a long and secret battle with colon cancer. Downey Jr. says Boseman “really embodied what it means to be a superhero” during the show, which has been repeated many times over the past few months.

The MTV Movie and TV Awards usually take place in the summer, but the public health crisis has caused the network to postpone the event. Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle appeared on a recorded message speaking of Chadwick Boseman. MTV says their Hero for the Ages Award “honors a star whose on-screen heroism has only been matched by the real hero they had off-screen.” Downey Jr. had this to say about Boseman.
“The second time you first saw him on screen or had the chance to meet him in person, his energy and intensity was undeniable. Chadwick Boseman had something different and special about him.”
Don Cheadle added, “Every time he stepped on the set, he inspired and influenced everyone. And with each role he created a new legion of fans. He had an incredible power to reach people through their love for his work and his respect for him as a person. ”Cheadle also took some time to remind people that Chadwick Boseman wasn’t just an on-screen superhero. He had that to say.
“Chadwick will forever be known as the Black Panther, but he has also painted incredibly powerful depictions of iconic and influential real men who have changed the world … He brought humanity and truth into depicting people who felt larger than life and he did it in a way that honored her memories. ”
Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle’s words continue Chadwick Boseman are nothing new. Anyone who has ever come in contact with the late actor seems to have said similar things, which is why his legacy will live on beyond 2020. Boseman was able to connect with colleagues, fans and strangers in a unique way with his gift and many of these beautiful things were said about the man when he was still alive.
With a lack of new movies and TV shows in 2020, MTV decided to take a different path with their annual event. They decided to honor the greatest of all time, also known as the GOAT, from the 1980s until today. In addition to Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle, there were appearances by Selma Blair and Sarah Michelle Gellar, who recreated their kiss for cruel intent, as well as other appearances by Kevin Bacon, Drew Barrymore, Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis and Gal Gadot Kevin Hart, Adam Sandler, Jason Segel and Cobra Kai star William Zabka.
