It’s officially happening. The long-awaited Attack the block Continuation becomes reality when John Boyega has committed to repeating his role as Moses in the follow-up. Joe Cornish wrote and directed the 2011 film that put himself and Boyega on the map, and Cornish is returning to write and direct Attack Block 2.

The news was first reported by Deadline, which also included these Statemen from Boyega:

“It’s been a decade since Attack The Block was released, and so much has changed since then. I am excited to see this elevated story return to the streets of London. Moses has remained one of my favorite characters and it is a great honor to bring him back. ”

The 2011 film was a science fiction alien invasion story told from the perspective of a teenage street gang in south London. Boyega broke out in a violent way, but it took a couple of years for the film to trigger JJ Abrams to the actor when it came time to cast Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The plot details for Attack the Block 2 are being kept under wraps, but not only are Cornish and Boyega returning, the film is also being produced by Boyega through his banner UpperRoom Productions along with Nira Park and James Wilson, who both produced the first Attack the Block.

Cornish has since worked on and co-wrote a number of projects The adventures of Tintin and Ant man With Edgar Wrightand he’s even been offered some high-profile directing appearances, but he’s only made one other movie since: the adorable 2019 family fantasy film The child who would be king. He recently directed an adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic strip Starlight.

Commenting on Deadline, Cornish said, “I’m thrilled to be officially announcing our return to the world of Attack The Block on the tenth anniversary of the film’s release. Cant wait to work with John again and bring the audience an even bigger slice of inner-city alien action. ”
