Maddie will not only be a mother but also a mentor in the upcoming fourth season of 9-1-1.
TVLine has an exclusive insight into today’s premiere (Fox, 8 / 7c), in which Maddie May shows the ropes in the dispatch center. “Are you sure you wouldn’t rather be in college?” Maddie asks Athena’s daughter, to which she rightly replies: “Instead of staring at a screen? Which basically is what college is now? ” Good point.
“These characters went through what the audience went through,” executive producer Tim Minear told TVLine. “We don’t show it from the beginning or end of the pandemic – we are right in the middle. Our first responders have learned to live with it and they have learned to move on. That way, it’s a goal. The show isn’t about COVID, it’s about people who live in a world where it exists and who won’t let it take over their lives. “
As you may recall, the third season of 9-1-1 ended with high school graduation in May. But she wasn’t quite as excited about going to USC as her parents. In fact, Athena’s daughter said she had something important to ask Maddie about her graduation – something about her future. When TVLine asked Minear if he could tell us what May was up to, he said at the time, “I’m perfectly capable … but I won’t!” This riddle is finally solved.

As for any possible season 4 pregnancy drama, Minear teases, “What you’re going to see in the premiere is that our first responders decided to live apart from their families because they didn’t know what was or what was out there in the world would bring them home. So Chimney moved in with Buck and has been living there for a few months because he’s so paranoid now that Maddie is pregnant. So they were separated for the first month of their pregnancy and only interacted through Zoom. The pandemic got everyone’s expectations and routine under control. That’s part of the drama. This is a healthy pregnancy, but it comes at a very unhealthy time. “
