The Whole Marvel Cinematic Universe Slate
It’s understandable that people should feel withdrawn from Marvel, as 2020 was the first year in a decade that no stories from the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been told, but if that drought has to continue into 2021, it should be. What makes this situation so critical is that next year will be the franchise’s first truly massive small-screen storytelling venture. While the macro idea is that storylines can be woven between the films and the episodic narratives, the specificity only exists when the films are released on a different platform.
Cate Shortlands Black Widow, Chloe Zhao’s Eternals, Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Jon Watts’ sequel Spider-Man: Far From Home Untitled are minimized by anything but releases where they play in 4,000. plus theater, and they should be delayed as long as necessary to make sure that happens.
